The 20 gifts everyone wants on Amazon this year

Everyone loves Amazon for the holidays. With reliable 2-day shipping (if you’ve got Prime) and millions of gift items and ideas for last-minute ordering, that’s no surprise. If you’re stumped on what to get, take a look at what the masses are buying from the retail giant.

Amazon’s Most Wished For List is updated daily with the items most often added to Amazon wish lists and registries. It’s a great indicator of what’s trending and popular for those hard-to-shop-for relatives. These are the most wished-for gifts of 2018:

1. What Do You Meme? Party Game

With a similar game setup as Cards Against Humanity, What Do You Meme? is the newest hot party game. Each player matches a funny caption to a popular meme at the center of the table, and the winner is picked by a rotating judge each hand. Be warned: It’s NSFW (or for kids, for that matter).

2. Echo Dot

This entry-level smart speaker has all the power of Alexa in one tiny package. It is upgraded from the previous generation, which we loved when we tested the best Amazon smart speakers, and comes in a few beautiful finishes that won’t disrupt the flow of your home decor.

3. Apple AirPods

I guess it’s no real surprise that Apple makes the best true wireless earbuds on the market, nor is it a surprise that everyone wants them. They sync flawlessly with an iPhone, have an efficient charging pack (pictured above), and have better sound quality than the average Apple headphones. Even our most discerning critic couldn’t deny his love for these earbuds—why should you?

4. Becoming by Michelle Obama

Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s memoir is the most-read biography of the moment. One reviewer raves, “Michelle Obama gives us endearing, insightful, honest memories. From growing up in a working class household in Chicago, to leaving the White House residence, her story is unique and thought provoking.”

5. Melissa & Doug Let’s Play House! Play Set

According to many pleasantly surprised Amazon reviewers, kids love this cleaning set. One even witnessed a throng of children abandon screens and Nerf guns at a 2-year-old’s birthday party in favor of this set. Bonus: It will make the transition to chores that much easier in a few years. What’s not to love?

6. Nintendo Switch

Nintendo’s newest gaming console is in high demand. The Switch combines the power of a full home gaming console with the ability to “undock” the smaller screen and take it on the go like a tablet. Most Switch games allow three or four players to game together at the same time, and as usual, Nintendo’s games are colorful, intuitive, and family-friendly.

7. Dyson Ball Vacuum Toy

Kids and parents are flipping for this toy. Why? The play vacuum is actually functional, meaning that while your tot plays, your house is actually getting cleaner. I know, it goes against everything we know of kids playing, but it’s true. Plus, it’s the perfect size for little ones, making it easy for them to maneuver (and keeping your real vacuum safe!).

8. Fire TV Stick

We love the Fire TV Stick here at Reviewed, and we’re not alone: It tops Amazon’s Most Wished For Tech section. For less than $40, it’s a great option for people who appreciate the price of a Chromecast but enjoy the idea of having a physical remote control. And if you’re specifically looking to take advantage of Amazon’s Prime streaming service, the Fire TV Stick is an almost impossible bargain.

9. Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis

No trendy bookshelf would be complete without a fresh copy of Girl, Wash Your Face, the millenial book of the moment. Rachel Hollis dives into twenty examples of common lies, misconceptions, and negativity that impeded her joy and productivity—and how she challenged them to become successful and happy.

10. Furbo Dog Camera

This contraption is so much more than just a pet camera. It pairs with an app on your phone to toss treats in your absence and has two-way audio and a barking alert so you know when and if your dog is barking, and can soothe him accordingly. In the case of one reviewer, that was a life-saving feature: Her home caught on fire when she was out, and her dog’s barks alerted her to the emergency.

11. L.O.L. Surprise! Glam Glitter Series

This glitter ball is the (inedible) Wonder Ball of the new generation. The plastic glittery ball is filled with, quite simply, a bunch of surprises like dolls, accessories, and clothes—that must all be individually unwrapped. It’s all the joy of a stocking in one self-contained ball, and definitely the “It Toy” of the year.

12. Embark Dog DNA Test Kit

If you have a rescue pup, good on you. However, you’re probably curious as to what your precious mutt is made of—in fact, that information can help you train your dog and understand their health risks. Embark is one of Oprah’s Favorite Things this year for good reason: The cheek swab screens for over 250 dog breeds, shows your dog’s family tree back to great-grandparents, and scans 165 genetic health issues so you can find out about potential issues before they strike.

13. Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer & Volumizer

This hot air hairbrush is actually the top-selling hair dryer on Amazon, and we tested and loved it. Not only do many reviewers swear it cuts drying time in half, many also have since ditched other heat styling tools, since they leave hair flattened—exactly what this dryer promises not to do by lifting at the roots for bouncy, full hair.

14. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

According to Reviewed’s authority on Super Smash, Lee Neikirk, “Ultimate is the latest in Nintendo’s beloved fighting game franchise, and it’s caused a big stir amongst fans. Ultimate takes everything that was great about the previous Smash game and adds more characters, more stages, more game modes, and a faster game engine. The end result? Probably the best Super Smash Bros. ever made.”

Reviews: 180 (it only came out last week!)
Star rating: 4.5

15. Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay

This clay mask is among the beauty products with a cult following on Amazon. Mix it with equal parts of apple cider vinegar or water and let sit 5-20 minutes for deep pore cleansing, to zap stubborn acne, and even to minimize the appearance of scars. It’s for everyone, from sensitive eczema-prone to oily skin with cystic acne.

16. Waterpik Aquarius Water Flosser

Do you really need a water flosser? Most dentists (and Amazon reviewers) say yes. We loved the Waterpik Aquarius when we tested it, and thousands of reviewers agree, saying it improves gum health, calling it “one of the top five investments of my life,” and deeming it “by far the best water flosser on the market.”

17. Infant Optics Baby Monitor

This baby monitor tops the wish lists of new parents, and when we tested the best video baby monitors, we loved it too! One reviewer says, “You can’t go wrong with this camera and monitor. It works great and it is backed up by outstanding customer service that provides peace of mind all new parents should be afforded.”

18. URPOWER Essential Oil Diffuser

It’s not shocking that an essential oil diffuser is a highly wished-for item. They’re great for stress relief, and they save money in the long run for candle addicts. We tested the best essential oil diffusers, and this one was nearly identical to our winner. It’s intuitive to use and offers great runtime at a reasonable price.

19. Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat by Samin Nosrat

This cookbook is so popular it’s now a Netflix series. Written by renowned chef Samin Nosrat, it teaches “you how to build food (and flavor) from scratch and by instinct,” says one reviewer, who swears, “I talk about Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat the way people talk about beloved pets or newborn babies; like I was a different person before I read it—and I was.”

20. Infantino Flip Convertible Carrier

A good baby carrier is essential to any new parent, and this budget pick is a hot pick among moms and dads. When we tested the best baby carriers, we preferred Infantino’s Cuddle version to this one, but this doesn’t require an infant insert and Amazon reviewers say the Flip “is lightweight and easy to use” but isn’t for extended use. It’s still a great budget option in a pinch.
